Trans Issues

Pronouns

A huge problem for trans people is lack of respect for their pronouns. Wether that is because of their identity, presentation, assigned gender, or ‘not understanding’ a set of pronouns, trans people are regularly misgendered
Pronouns are an aspect of language used to replace a name (eg. I, he, it, we)
In terms of trans people, the term is used in the context of personal pronouns, such as he/him, she/her, or they/them Some people might use several of these, usually represented like she/he, they/she etc. usually in order of preference.
They/them is both a singular and plural pronoun, you might not even realise you call people by they/ them, (“someone left their wallet here”)
Pronouns are not dependent on gender identity and should be respected no matter what they are

Gender Expression

Trans people often suffer from the conflation of gender identity and expression, with people claiming they cannot be expected to respect someone’s identity if it does not align with their presentation.
Gender expression is a separate concept, not tied to one’s sex nor gender
Gender expression refers mostly to one’s appearance in relation to the gender it is usually associated with
Tems for your gender expression include masculine (masc), feminine (fem) or androgynous.
This too is a spectrum. It is a choice baced on preference and can often change day to day.
It is important to respect someone’s identity and pronouns, no matter the presentation

Trans Misogyny

It is a common misconception that trans people do not experience misogyny
People believe trans women get the advantages of being a ‘biological male’, however they still experience misogyny . They may not come out in fear that they will be judged, not solely for being trans, but for being a woman. They are associated with being aggressive because of gender essentialist ideas. After they transition, they likely will experience mysogony like a cis woman would.
Trans men suffer through mysogony like that of cis women, at least until they begin to pass, if they ever pass at all. They too might fear coming out because of the idea that men are aggressive or ‘betraying your own gender’

Trans People in Sports

There has been a long debate about the inclusion of trans people in sport. The discussion usually revolves around trans women, who are seen as having an unfair advantage.
It has been shown that after hormone therapy, trans women's’ advantages become nonexistent.
The supposed biological advantage is actually a hormonal advantage, this becomes removed with HRT, in fact, many women have naturally high testosterone levels, they would actually have a larger advantage than a trans women.
Trans men are discussed much less in this regard, as they are not considered to have an advantage. Men on testosterone are actually required to partake in men’s teams. This just goes to show that it is less about fairness to the game, and more about promoting the idea that women are weaker and men are a stronger and a threat to them.
